Mid Point Sweep

Broom Making in Conzatti Park

Last week marked the midpoint of our stay in Oaxaca this winter, and a busy winter it has been. I do use the term "winter" loosely, as the temperatures most days will reach into the upper 80's, and sometimes higher. We have almost a 40 degree swing in temperature during the day, often waking up to temperatures in the upper 40's to low 50's. This year, we've seen two rain events, short storms that didn't drop much water. This is a very arid area, and water shortages are becoming the norm. Many people are receiving municipal water infrequently, and the private water companies (think of oil delivery trucks) are having trouble keeping up with demand. People are very concerned, and conservation is always on our mind.

I've been busy working on the computers at the Oaxaca Lending Library. We've been able replace the administrator's outdated machine with a new one, updated the catalog room computer with more memory and a new ssd drive, and repurposed an old computer to provide access to the library catalog for the public at the front desk. We are reworking the public access computers with software updates, trying to improve their performance, security, and stability.

Less photography than usual, I think I'm suffering from a bit of visual fatigue, but hope to recover soon. This weeks post is a collection of images primarily from Oaxaca, with a couple from Puebla thrown in that I'd missed in the long Puebla post.

  3. Love the vibrant murals on the sides of buildings and the amazing colorful double doors. I'm sure your Mexican community appreciates your expertise and support at the library, what a kind thing to do. Keep sending photos, love seeing them. Be safe and enjoy your time!
