Viva Mexico!
Coming into Mexico City on our AeroMexico Flight from Miami. One takeoff and one landing makes it a good flight in my book.
Easy time clearing immigration and customs in Mexico City, less than a half hour, including a stop for our boarding passes to Oaxaca. After clearing customs and immigration, we had to go through the security check. I had no problem, but Judi had her bag searched because we brought a couple boxes of Halavah in from Miami. Lucky for us, it wasn't confiscated so on we went, with enough time for a quick dinner of Enchiladas Suizas, quite yummy.
In terminal 2 of Mexico City's airport, you don't get a gate assignment for your departing flight until just before departure. You are sent to cool your heels in a "sala" that may or may not be near your departure gate. This usually entails moving upwards via a series of ramps, stairs and occasionally an elevator to your designated waiting area, and then, once your flight is called, back down several staircases to a gate, and either a jetway or a bus ride to your waiting plane.
AeroMexico is unique amongst carriers in that it's planes are 100% on time. No matter when takeoff is supposed to happen, the main boards always say the flight is departing on time, no matter when. Once we boarded, we were held up for an hour waiting for a co-pilot, as ours had taken ill. Hopefully, he did not eat where we had our dinner.
It was pretty late getting into Oaxaca, but our checked baggage arrived when we did, and our landlady picked us up and whisked us to our apartment in good time. She had left some tacos, avocado, melon and bananas for us, but being so late, wew put them aside and enjoyed them very much the next day. She treats us like family!
Our first day in Oaxaca was spent reuniting with friends over a wonderful breakfast,
Followed up by some shopping, a quick siesta, and dinner with friends. While waiting, we wandered around the Santa Domingo area, and I took out the camera to record some of the local street activities:
These skateboarders looked good, but the landings were pretty hard.
In Oaxaca, everyone is a photographer!
See you on the next post friends, stay well!
I love that you bring halvah! And I well remember the maze of the Mexico City airport. Not finding a way to comment non-anonymously. Best, Ella
