More walkin', and a lot of talkin'

A big dinner at a local Texas barbecue joint ended with a photo op on the way out of myself and Oswaldo Ramirez Guzman on  both sides of the border.

Having a need to walk of the big barbecue dinner, we went to the small town of Tule for a long afternoon of walking. Santa Maria del Tule is famous for being the site of the Tule tree, which is an enormous Monterrey Cyprus. From wikipedia:

"The Tule Tree is the tree with the largest trunk diameter in the world. His actual age is unknown, but according to estimates he is over 2000. He is an ahuehuete (Taxodium huegelii C.Lawson 1851, known for his synonym Taxodium mucronatum Ten. 1853) with a cup circumference of approximately 58 meters and a height of 42 meters. With a trunk of 14.5 meters in diameter, it is estimated that at least 30 people with their hands intertwined would be required to be able to cover it and in its shade there are approximately 500 people."

It's a  magnificent tree, and we visit every trip to Oaxaca. The town itself is very colorful, and while most of the tourist activity is centered around the tree and the beautiful town center, Judi and I enjoy walking the back streets. There's always something colorful and interesting to photograph along the way. Here's (a lot) of photos from that afternoon:

Back in Oaxaca we had a morning of Mexican train dominoes. Dave Taylor, Jacquie Scheinberg, and Judi had a pretty lively game.

After the game was over, we rewarded ourselves with a great lunch at Oaxaca's premier (possibly only) German restaurant "La Berlina" Gabriel and his wife own the place, and they've served up great food for many years now. They have several types of sausages made to order, home made potato salad an other tasty sides, and the reasonable price of a meal includes a craft beer. Gabriel's Joanna is famous for here baked deserts.

I'm going to wrap up this posting with some shots from Oaxaca, where there is always something unusual to see. Getting out of the car and walkin' the streets is very rewarding. I'm happy to be able to spend me winter wandering around.
